A mountain destroyed itself at the same pace as in it was created

The world at large and the connections and movements within it are the main focus of the work of Esther Kokmeijer. She is investigating the origins of nature through mappings of intersections between man-made and ‘natural' forms of reality. In her travels across the globe she explores quantifiable positions related to geographic coordination systems, climatic phenomena and politically vs topologically defined borders. Kokmeijer is interested in how ‘landscapes’ are shaped, interact and interferes in the lives of people and vice versa.

The Mont Sainte Victoire is celebrated for its many appearances. In respect for the impressive presence of this adjacent mountain at Domaine Saint Ser, the object Kokmeijer is producing for the Patrimonial route 2014, will exist merely of an compilation of reflections of it’s surrounding. The shape of the object refers to the Mont Sainte Victoire and places the beholder within the landscape. The placement of the object will be located on the border of the cultivated ground of the vines from the Domaine Saint-Ser and the natural upwards continuation of the mountain. Visitors who approach the work, will find the object pointing to its surrounding. Duo to the different wind directions the first reflections will be recommended by nature itself.Â
